Jim McCann's first solo albums …

I have created this page to alleviate some repetition in the Jim McCann discography. Sorting out Jim McCann's first solo albums is quite confusing, so hopefully this all make sense.

The [Folk Mill] release of McCanned and Streets of London are a compilation of the same tracks from Jim McCann's first 2 (above) solo LPs.

According to Billboard - August 26, 1972 … (at google books), "A Jim McCann album, released by Polydor in Oct., will consist of selections from McCann's previous two albums. The new LP will be called 'McCanned' …" Note the credit: "Compiled" by George McManus

Therefore, I believe the [Folk Mill] McCanned was released first and Streets of London was released later. But, still quite possibly in 1972, as that is the date on the label. Furthermore, (it appears) Polydor had a habit of releasing different versions of the same material at the same time, as with the 1973 Dubliners' LP, Plain And Simple.

To confuse matters even further, McCann and Streets of London have very similar covers and the two McCanned LPs, in addition to having the same title, have the exact same covers!

Streets of London is not in my collection. However, I found a copy for sale on a Japanese auction site — including images of front and back covers, as well as the vinyl label. [center] The Streets of London scans are hard to read, but you can make out that the track list is the same as McCanned, the "Folk Mill" version.

Additionally, songs from McCann and the "original" McCanned were released on the 2004 CD titled Seems Like a Long Time.

The 3 tracks that were not re-issued are, "Butchie's Tune", "Love of the Commom People" & "My Old Man".

My thanks to Dubliners' archivist, Per Jappée, and the "Bold" John Lynch for helping to unravel this mystery, with his information on Jim McCann's elusive first solo album.
