Notes
Now in its 13th series this popular television series has been one of RTÉ’s flagship musical entertainment programmes since 1994.The series takes its title from a well known traditional reel and is an invitation to the West, traditionally the Irish region of the past. There are sterling performances from big names like Sharon Shannon, Seamus Ennis, De Danann and Willie Clancy as well as rare intimate footage of performers from throughout the gamut of Irish musical heritage. Footage is drawn chiefly from the holdings of RTÉ's TV Programme Library for the station's first twenty-five years, from 1961 to 1989, but also from the archives of other television stations and from film and newsreel archives.
