Notes
"The Ar Stáitse series features archive footage from a host of top names in Irish music, live in concert. RTÉ recorded and transmitted these concerts on various dates in the 1970's. This first volume from the series brings you the best of Irish music from folk to traditional and Celtic rock."
"Aired late in 2010 on TG4 the series features great performances from The National Stadium in Dublin and Cork’s Opera House among other venues. Among the gems is an epic rendition of Horslips "Furniture" as well as classics like "The Town I Loved So Well" sung by Luke Kelly with The Dubliners (DVD only). Andy Irvine together with Paul Brady deliver a seminal performance."
The Dubliners' portion of this DVD (& CD) is from Siamsa Cois Laoi, Cork, filmed at Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Co. Cork in 1978. This is a unique Dubliners release as it feature the line up of Ronnie, Luke Kelly, John Sheahan and Jim McCann — Barney McKenna is missing. Apparently, Barney was in Europe shooting The Green Linnet — a documentary TV series for RTÉ, with Tony McMahon. In addition, Ronnie Drew was not officially in the group at the time, and I assume, he was filling in for Barney. This is one of the few, if not the only recorded appearance with Ronnie, Luke and Jim McCann.
2 While only billed as Andy Irvine, these tracks also include Paul Brady and Dónal Lunny.
